Panama: More Chinese Tourists

Publicado el 10-08-2017

The Varela administration is assessing the possibility of making the requirements to grant tourist visas to Chinese citizens more flexible, in order to attract tourism and investments from the Asian country.

The possibility was raised by representatives of the Panamanian government to their Asian counterparts on an official tour that is taking place in China.

Prensa.com reports that "... it is in the interest of President Varela to proceed with the relaxation of visas for Chinese visas with the aim of 'attracting more tourism and Chinese investment to our country," said the Ministry of Communication.

"... Another of the issues addressed during the meeting was the need for and bilateral interest in preventing and controlling illegal migration between the two countries. The Secretary of the National Security Council, Rolando López, proposed to coordinate the exchange of information between the competent institutions of both countries, in order to gather and exchange information on migrants with criminal records, ongoing investigations or pending civil cases, to ensure regulation and order in migratory matters."
