They promote in Panama application of international labor standards

Publicado el 31-01-2019

A group of representatives from the employer, government and worker sectors in Panama are analyzing the application of international labor standards as a strategy to promote social justice and decent work in the region.

This tripartite workshop on Awareness, Follow-up, Contributions, Conclusions and Recommendations on Convention No. 144 of the International Labor Organization (ILO), which aims to promote tripartism and social dialogue at the national level, reported the Ministry of Work and Labor Development (Mitradel).

"The Mitradel is an innate and permanent interlocutor and aims to answer the call of each sector," added the general secretary of the Mitradel, Carmen Roner, during the opening of the workshop on Tuesday, January 29.

Convention 144 on tripartite consultation is an instrument adopted in June 1976 within the framework of the 61st meeting of the ILO to promote the application of international labor standards. The same came into force on May 16, 1978.

Roner stressed that Panama has ratified Convention 144 since June 11, 2015 to formalize in this way the country's commitment to the progress of relations and communications between the government and other parties in the workplace.

The workshop will run until January 31, 2019.
