Panama & Dominican Republic: New Business Opportunities

Posted on 2017-05-03

The current Partial Scope Agreement between the Dominican Republic and Panama, in force since 1987, has a limited coverage of just under 200 products.  The governments of Panama and the Dominican Republic said that the expansion of products under the agreement will allow us to explore new opportunities for agricultural products, agro-processed products, seafood and industrial products while maintaining our protection of sensitive products.

From a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Panama:

Panama and the Dominican Republic signed a framework agreement for the incorporation of new products and / or improving product preferences under the current partial agreement with the objective of strengthening their economic and commercial relations as friendly countries and strategic partners.

The agreement was signed by the Minister of Commerce and Industries of Panama, Augusto Arosemena, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Miguel Vargas, responsible for the trade negotiations of the respective countries, in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Luis Miguel Hincapié during an act held in the Panamanian Foreign Ministry.
