Posted on 2025-03-20

The United Kingdom's Trade Commissioner for Latin America and the Caribbean, Jonathan Knott, announced his country's interest in exploring new trade and investment opportunities in key sectors such as infrastructure and technology.

During a meeting with the Minister of Trade and Industry of Panama, Julio Moltó, the two officials discussed various areas of economic and business cooperation that could benefit both nations.

Among the highlights were Panama's potential as a key logistics and financial hub in the region, as well as the advantages of the United Kingdom as a strategic partner for economic development and attracting investment.

Minister Moltó emphasized the importance of Panama's Special Regime for the Headquarters of Multinational Enterprises (SEM), which has become a key attraction for companies seeking to operate regionally and globally.

“I am convinced that we can continue strengthening commercial ties with the United Kingdom, identifying projects that generate significant financial returns while contributing to the social well-being of our nation,” said Moltó.

Currently, 12 British companies operate under this regime, covering sectors such as energy, manufacturing, food, beverages, and pharmaceuticals.

This meeting is part of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MICI)'s strategy to diversify and expand Panama's trade relations, consolidating the country as a strategic trade and investment center in Latin America and the Caribbean.
