Brazil and Panama Lead Latin America in Punctuality, According to OAG’s OTP Star Ratings

Posted on 2019-06-12

OAG, the world’s leading provider of travel data and insight, has released its annual On-time Performance (OTP) Star Ratings, which accredits the top airlines and airports around the world for superior punctuality performance.

“Two success cases include Peru, which has increased the nation’s number of flights by 11% between 2017 and 2018, and Colombia, which grew its frequency by over 8% in the last two years.”

Brazil is home to 31 accredited airports overall, including five of the top six most punctual airports in the region: Sao Luiz (SLZ), Teresina (THE), Aracaju (AJU), Campo Grande (CGR) and Cuiaba (CGB). Both of Sao Paulo’s airports, Viracopos-Campinas (VCP) and Congonhas Airport (CGH), earned four stars.

Copa Airlines and Panama Tocumen International Airport (PTY) lead the region in OTP, each earning 5-star ratings from OAG. LATAM Airlines Group, Aeromexico and Azul Airlines all secured four stars. GOL Linhas Aereas S.A. earned a 3-star rating and Avianca two stars.

Other notables in this year’s accreditation include Santiago CL, with its 4-star performance, and Lima (PE), which earned a 3-star rating.

The OTP Star Ratings measure punctuality performance across a rolling 12-month period, this year’s ending May 2019. To achieve an OTP Star Rating, the world’s airlines and airports must meet two simple criteria: all airlines and airports must have a minimum of 1,500 operations a month and OAG must receive flight status information for no less than 80 percent of scheduled flights within the 12-month period. The top ten percent of airlines and airports receive five stars, and the poorest performers one star.
