Air China: New Route Beijing-Houston-Panama City

Posted on 2018-04-02

On April 5, 2018, Air China will launch a new route from Beijing to Panama City, passing through Houston. It is expected that the new route will greatly facilitate exchanges between both countries, as well as with neighboring regions, and offer passengers a wider range of options.

In June 2017, China and Panama signed the Joint Communiqué between the Republic of Panama and the People's Republic of China on the establishment of diplomatic relations. This formal establishment of diplomatic relations leads to a new era a relationship that is more than 160 years old. China is the second largest trading partner of Panama and the second largest user of the Panama Canal, while Panama is the largest trading partner of China in Central America. In 2017, bilateral trade amounted to almost US $ 6.7 billion and passenger traffic in both directions reached around 40,000 people, growing at an annual rate of almost 30%.

Panama City, better known as the Panama Canal, is a historic port city nestled between lush mountains and the Pacific Ocean. In it, tourists witness the contrast between the colorful colonial architecture of the city and the bright, modern high-rise buildings that dominate the skyline. In addition, Panama enjoys a unique geographic location as a crossroads of land and ocean, and is considered by China to be a natural extension of the Maritime Silk Road of the 21st Century in Latin America, with an essential function. In addition to improving business relations between both countries, Air China expects the launch of the new Beijing-Houston-Panama City route to improve transport links between China and Panama considerably. On the other hand, the route is expected to deepen bilateral trade,

In recent years, China has been working to make Beijing a major airport hub, with a truly global reach. Air China's route network now covers the six inhabited continents and the launch of the Beijing-Houston-Panama City route marks an important milestone in its efforts to expand coverage in the Americas. Air China currently operates more than 200 weekly flights to 12 destinations in the Americas, including New York (Newark and JFK airports), Washington, DC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, Hawaii, Vancouver, Montreal, La Havana and São Paulo. Its spacious and modern cabins and outstanding service ensure passengers an extremely comfortable trip.
