On April 5, 2018, Air China will launch a new route from Beijing to Panama City, passing through Houston. It is expected that the new route will greatly facilitate exchanges between both countries, as well as with neighboring regions, and offer passengers a wider range of options.
In June 2017, China and Panama signed the Joint Communiqué between the Republic of Panama and the People's Republic of China on the establishment of diplomatic relations. China is the second largest trading partner of Panama and the second largest user of the Panama Canal, while Panama is the largest trading partner of China in Central America. In 2017, bilateral trade amounted to almost US $ 6.7 billion and passenger traffic in both directions reached around 40,000 people, growing at an annual rate of almost 30%.

The Beijing-Houston-Panama City route is operated by wide-body Boeing 777-300 ER (extended reach) aircraft, popular with business travelers. The cabins of the first and business classes are equipped with fully reclining seats and have a central bar area, and passengers of all classes have their own in-flight entertainment system and power outlets.
