Panama & China: Progress of Bilateral Agenda

The advance of the bilateral agenda between China and Panama, as well as the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries, were considered by the two governments at a meeting held in Panama.

On her official visit to Panama, the Minister in charge of the Office of the State Council for Chinese Affairs in the Overseas, Qiu Yuanping, emphasized to the President of the Republic, Juan Carlos Varela, that "the establishment of diplomatic relations with Panama it was the most important diplomatic achievement for China during 2017.”

The President and Minister Qiu highlighted the rapid progress of the construction of the bilateral agenda between the Republic of Panama and the People's Republic of China after the establishment of diplomatic relations, which after 8 months already recorded 23 agreements in commercial, economic, tourism, maritime and cooperation, among others. 

In this line, they delved into the results of the visits of Chinese authorities to Panama; as well as official visits by Panamanian authorities. The Minister of Tourism, Gustavo Him, will travel to the Asian country in early March to participate in the International Tourism Fair of Guangzhou, seeking to promote the status of "Approved Tourist Destination" and the relaxation of visas to encourage the entry of Chinese tourists to the country. Also, the Minister of Agricultural Development, Eduardo Enrique Carles, will travel to China in April to meet with his counterpart and phytosanitary authorities, in order to continue increasing exports of Panamanian products to China.
