The Tocumen International Airport recorded an 11% increase in flight operations compared to the same period in 2024, reflecting a strong surge in passenger traffic during the year-end holiday season. Daily operations reached peaks of up to 500 flights per day as travelers moved in and out of Panama for the New Year festivities.
On December 30, approximately 6,800 local passengers departed from the airport. Authorities reported that more than 3,700 passengers passed through Terminals 1 and 2 during the day, with an additional 3,100 passengers expected in the following hours, highlighting the intensity of travel activity.
Airport officials anticipate that the highest volume of arrivals will occur between January 2 and January 4, 2026, marking the conclusion of the holiday travel season. During these peak days, an estimated 2,600 passengers per day are expected to arrive in the morning hours, while afternoon arrivals are projected to exceed 4,500 passengers daily.
According to José Ruiz Blanco, General Manager of Tocumen International Airport, this growth reflects sustained strategic planning and a strong institutional commitment to operational excellence. He emphasized that the increased volume of flights and passengers reinforces the confidence that airlines and travelers place in Tocumen as a modern, efficient, and secure international hub.
Airport authorities remind travelers to arrive at least three hours before their scheduled departure, in line with airline recommendations. Passengers are also encouraged to ensure that all travel documentation is valid and readily accessible, and to verify that prohibited items are not included in carry-on luggage, helping to streamline security checks and avoid delays.
