After several years of litigation to secure its future connection to the national electricity grid, the German multinational UKA, specialized in renewable energy projects, announced that it will invest $200 million in the development of a wind power plant in the district of Antón, province of Coclé.
The project, called La Colorada, will be led by engineer Héctor Miranda and will have a generation capacity of 140 megawatts (MW). To achieve this, the company plans to install 20 state-of-the-art wind turbines, each with a capacity of 7 MW, capable of supplying clean and sustainable energy to the country’s electrical system.
According to Miranda, the development will cover approximately 3,000 hectares across the districts of Antón and Penonomé. One of the project’s key advantages is that wind energy production does not interfere with other economic activities, such as agriculture or livestock farming.
Additionally, the land lease model implemented by UKA will allow local families to earn additional income from the use of their properties, thereby generating a positive economic impact within the surrounding communities.
This initiative strengthens Panama’s commitment to the transition toward renewable energy sources and positions the country as an attractive destination for foreign investment in the energy sector.
