IKEA Confirms Its First Three Locations in Panama: Zona Uno, Altaplaza, and Metropark

Posted on 2026-09-01

Swedish home furnishings brand IKEA has confirmed its first three strategic locations in Panama as part of its official market entry alongside franchisee Sarton Group.

The company’s rollout will follow a phased approach, supported by its official e-commerce website (www.ikea.pa) as the primary entry point for consumers in the country.

Expansion Phases and Operational Infrastructure

The brand's deployment across the capital integrates logistics, digital channels, and retail formats:

  • Zona Uno (Logistics Base and Pick-up Point): Serves as an external merchandise pick-up point (EMPU) for orders placed online or via phone, while supporting home delivery services. This facility will function as e-commerce infrastructure rather than a retail store.

  • Altaplaza (Compact Store): In the second phase, IKEA plans to open a compact store format where customers can view, touch, and test products while receiving expert planning advice.

  • Metropark (Medium-Format Store with Distribution Center): In a subsequent stage, the company projects a site combining a medium-format store with a larger-capacity distribution center to strengthen its omnichannel operations.

Long-Term Vision and Value Proposition

IKEA outlined its arrival in Panama as a long-term commitment, focusing on building logistical, technological, and customer service capacities ahead of each opening phase. Future updates will be shared through the brand's official channels.

The retailer bases its commercial offer on its signature Democratic Design concept, which integrates form, function, quality, sustainability, and low price to suit various lifestyles and budgets.
